Board Announcement of HCC Interim Chancellor-Elect

Jun 21, 2023

Dear HCC Family,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, it is my pleasure to announce that we have selected Dr. Margaret Ford Fisher, currently President of HCC Online, as our sole finalist for Interim Chancellor, following an expeditious and thorough process outlined in the Interim Search Timeline. The Board will vote to approve her contract at a special Board meeting in July, and she will begin service September 1 to provide executive leadership for HCC as we move forward with a comprehensive search for our permanent Chancellor anticipated to conclude next spring.

We look forward to Dr. Ford Fisher bringing her extensive expertise and professionalism to HCC at this time of transition. She is a highly respected educator and leader with phenomenal higher education experience, including 38 years at HCC. Dr. Ford Fisher’s array of leadership positions leading to her current presidency of HCC Online College span President Northeast College, Interim Vice Chancellor of Instruction, Associate Vice Chancellor of Academics, Dean of Instruction, Division Chair of Arts & Humanities, and Department Chair of English, as well as English professor. She also has taught at Texas Southern University, University of Houston, and Wichita High School South, and worked as a community relations specialist for a governmental agency. Throughout her career, Dr. Ford Fisher has been a staunch advocate for education locally, nationally, and internationally. She is a long-time HISD advisory committee member and a lifetime member of the NAACP. Nationally, she has served on the International Relations Commission of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and currently serves on AACC’s Commission on Technology and Infrastructure Support. She is a much-lauded spokesperson, author, and community leader. Additional information about Dr. Ford Fisher may be found here.

The Board of Trustees and I believe Dr. Ford Fisher’s accomplishments, qualifications, and willingness to serve will be critical to advance the Board’s expectations outlined in the Position Announcement (posted on the Interim Chancellor Search webpage), which include providing unifying leadership and sustaining the College’s momentum towards student success. Please join us in thanking Dr. Ford Fisher for stepping up to this new challenge.

I will keep you updated on details regarding the upcoming permanent Chancellor search and look forward to your participation in this process. As always, THANK YOU for all you do for HCC and our students!

Sincerely,

Sincerely,

Dr. Cynthia Lenton-Gary Signature

Cynthia Lenton-Gary, Ph.D.
