Comprehensive Coding Information Sheet

Is national certification available?

National certification examinations are offered by multiple organizations and are optional.

 

How much will I earn?

Income will depend on what area of employment you choose, if you have earned a national certification, what hours you work, and your prior work experience.  Entry level base salaries can range from $26,000 to $42,000 per year.

 

How long does the program last?

You should be able to complete the certificate as quickly as in 4-5 months.

 

How do I qualify for admittance?

Students must have a high school diploma or GED, and have basic keyboarding and computer skills.  Data entry skills are helpful, as well as good verbal and written communication skills. Prior experience and/or study in the medical clerical field is helpful.

 

Are books included in the course fee?

Books are not included in the cost of the course.  Book titles will be provided and books may be purchases at HCC book stores.

 

What HCC campus has this program?

The program is available at HCC SE College (Rustic), HCC Southwest College (West Loop), and HCC Northwest College (Alief), on an alternating basis.
