HCC Northeast Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for two new facilities

On Tuesday, October 20, 2009, Houston Community College Northeast celebrated the official opening of the Northeast Campus Learning Hub and Science & Technology Hall - HCC Energy Institute with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony & Open House event. HCC Northeast faculty, staff, and students along with HCC Administration, Board Trustees, community leaders, and elected officials celebrated the opening with a program themed Relevant, Opportunity and Essential

Congratulatory remarks were expressed by Dr. Mary S. Spangler, Dr. Margaret Ford Fisher, Trustee Abel Davila, Trustee Bruce Austin, Trustee Yolanda Navarro Flores, Commissioner El Franco Lee, Yuroba Harris, representing Congressman Gene Green and Deidra Rasheed, representing Councilmember Jarvis Johnson. HCC students from the HCC Public Safety Institute and Energy Institute also offered congratulatory remarks and stories of success. 

The new Learning Hub provides 90,000 square feet of new student services, classroom, lab, library and study space. Additional features include a general assembly room and recreation area. The Science & Technology Hall houses the HCC Energy Institute and Academic Science Center and provides 47,000 square feet of new state-of-the-art specialized science labs and high-tech classrooms for teaching and learning, contract training, and continuing education.
